Julie’s World of Windows
“Julie’s Whimsical Windows: Hand-Painted Art on 100-Year-Old Vintage Glass”
Julie Catlett began painting vintage windows in 2024. She has no formal art training and is self-taught in the process of reverse painting on glass. She has to-date painted over 200 panes of glass.
As a Registered Nurse, Julie was looking for an outlet to the stress of the profession. When a neighbor set out his 100-year-old windows after window replacement, Julie had no idea what she would do with them but could not bear the thought of them going into a landfill. The craftmanship as well as the years that the windows served their tenants, fascinated Julie and thus her unique art was born.
And so began Julie’s Windows—a whimsical, one-of-a-kind collection of hand-painted art on vintage glass. Julie’s work is more than just painting; it is a celebration of memories, a revival of forgotten histories. She paints delicate, swirling sunflowers that seemed to breathe life, soft detailed butterflies fluttering across the panes like a dream, and playful insects hiding behind the layers of paint. Every stroke was infused with her love for both the past and the present.
“Each window is a portal to an earlier time with stories to tell. When I paint, I try to honor the window and its maker.” ~Julie.
